The AZ-900 exam validates foundational Azure knowledge. It is the friendliest entry point into cloud certifications, but candidates still fail it by memorizing trivia instead of understanding concepts.
Know the domains
The exam is split across cloud concepts, Azure architecture and services, and Azure management and governance. Budget your study time proportionally to the weight of each domain.
Understand, do not memorize
Questions often describe a scenario and ask you to choose the best service. Learn what each service is for, not just its name. For example, know when to choose Azure Functions over Virtual Machines, or Blob Storage over Azure SQL Database.
Use practice tests correctly
Practice questions are most useful when you read the explanation for every answer, including the ones you got right. Reviewing why wrong answers are wrong builds the judgment you need on exam day.
Suggested 2-week plan
- Days 1-4: Cloud concepts and the consumption-based model.
- Days 5-9: Core services (compute, storage, networking, databases).
- Days 10-12: Management, governance, pricing, and support.
- Days 13-14: Timed practice runs and review of weak topics.
Book the exam only when you can consistently score above the passing threshold on full-length practice sets.
